According to a report by Khaleej Times, a 21-year-old Indian-origin student from Kerala’s Kollam district was tragically shot dead by unidentified assailants in Philadelphia. The victim, Jude Chacko, was returning from work on Sunday.
Apart from being a student, Jude also worked part-time in the city. His parents had migrated to the United States nearly 30 years ago.
Unfortunately, this incident is not an isolated one, as a 24-year-old Indian-origin individual named Saiesh Veera was also fatally shot at a fuel station in Ohio back in April. Saiesh Veera hailed from Andhra Pradesh.
On Monday evening, a chaotic incident unfolded along a beach boardwalk in Hollywood, Florida, leaving nine people injured as gunfire broke out.
The incident occurred on Memorial Day, causing panic and forcing people to seek cover amidst the bustling beach. Among the victims, there were six adults and three children who sustained injuries.
According to the police, one suspect has been apprehended, while another is still at large. Initial investigations indicate that the gunshots erupted following an altercation between two groups, leading to the unfortunate incident.
The recurring incidents of shootings across various states have prompted widespread denouncement of American gun laws. In May alone, a tragic event unfolded at a bustling mall north of Dallas, where a gunman embarked on a rampage, resulting in the death of eight individuals and injuries to nine others.
Authorities confirmed that they believed the perpetrator acted alone and was subsequently killed by a police officer outside the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Texas.
Despite the passage of gun-safety legislation by the US House of Representatives in June 2022, which marked the first such laws in three decades, acts of violence and targeted killings persist.
The legislation encompassed measures such as mandatory background checks for individuals seeking access to firearms and, notably, stricter regulations on gun sales and purchasers with domestic violence convictions.
However, critics frequently raise concerns regarding the effectiveness and impact of these statutes, particularly in light of the continued occurrence of gun violence throughout the United States.
