Russia’s foreign ministry has announced that Barack Obama, along with 499 other US citizens, will be banned from entering the country as a response to the latest round of sanctions imposed by Washington.
The decision comes after the United States denied visas to Russian media accompanying Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on his trip to the United Nations. According to news agency Reuters, the Russian foreign ministry released a statement regarding the ban.
In response to the latest round of US sanctions, Russia’s foreign ministry issued a statement asserting that Washington should have realized long ago that any hostile actions against Russia would not go unpunished. The ministry also revealed that the US request for consular access to Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal reporter detained since March on suspicion of spying, had been denied by Russia.
Meanwhile, the United States announced disciplinary measures targeting over 300 entities as a means to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. This move represents one of the most severe and extensive sanctions efforts ever undertaken by the US, as reported by Reuters.
In response to Vladimir Putin’s invasion, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen released a statement affirming that the actions taken would further constrict Putin’s ability to carry out the barbaric invasion. Yellen also highlighted that the measures would strengthen global endeavors to impede Russian attempts at evading sanctions.
The US Treasury Department, as reported by The Guardian, announced sanctions against 22 individuals and 104 entities operating in more than 20 countries or jurisdictions. These included companies involved in the import, shipping, or manufacturing of electronics components, semiconductors, and microelectronics destined for Russia.
