Milan’s mayor, Giuseppe Sala, has confirmed that there was no foul play involved in the recent explosions that rocked the city. The incident, which resulted in several cars being engulfed in fire, did not cause any fatalities.
According to Sala, the driver of the van that exploded had reported to the fire brigade that the fire had started in his engine.
He added that the driver had attempted to control the damage by quickly removing the oxygen cylinders he was transporting, but unfortunately, an explosion occurred.
The news agency Reuters quoted the mayor as saying that the driver had tried his best to prevent the situation from worsening. However, despite his efforts, the blast still occurred.
La Repubblica, an Italian daily, reported that a vehicle exploded at the intersection of via Pier Lombardo and via Vasari, in the Porta Romana area of Milan.
The initial explosion triggered a chain reaction of explosions, which involved at least five vehicles and four mopeds.
