During the UN Security Council’s Open Debate on Famine and Conflict-Induced Global Food Insecurity, India responded to Pakistan’s mention of the Kashmir issue by advising Pakistan to focus on addressing its internal matters rather than making frivolous allegations against India.
R Madhu Sudan, a Counsellor in India’s UN Mission, emphasized that India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable. He expressed that there was no need to engage in arguments with those who resort to terrorism to pursue unlawful goals.
India accused Pakistan of misusing UN platforms to divert attention from important topics and exploiting various forums to push its agenda.
The passage also highlighted the strained bilateral relations between India and Pakistan due to issues like cross-border terrorism and the Kashmir dispute, with India maintaining that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country. The tensions escalated in August 2019 when India altered the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
