India Strikes Gold, Overpowers South Korea in Compound Men’s Archery: Asian Games 2023
At the Asian Games 2023, the Indian team, consisting of Ojas Pravin Deotale, Abhishek Verma, and Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar, emerged victorious in the men’s compound event in archery. They secured the gold medal by defeating South Korea with a score of 235-230.

In a spectacular display of skill and determination, India claimed the gold medal in the compound men’s archery event at the Asian Games 2023 on Thursday, October 5. The team, consisting of Ojas Pravin Deotale, Abhishek Verma, and Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar, exhibited their prowess at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre Final Field, defeating South Korea with a score of 235-230. This triumph marked India’s 21st gold medal in the ongoing tournament in Hangzhou, solidifying their dominant presence.
Right from the start, India showcased their dominance, finishing the first end with a score of 58-55. Although South Korea had a better second end, the Indian quartet continued to maintain their lead at 116-114. In the third end, India further extended their advantage, tallying a score of 59, bringing the total to 175-171. Despite the valiant efforts of South Korea’s Jongho Kim, Jaewon Yang, Jaehoon, and Joo in the fourth end, the Indian team’s exceptional form made it challenging for them to bridge the gap.

Ojas Pravin Deotale, hailing from Nagpur, displayed his early passion for archery by crafting makeshift bows and arrows from household brooms. His exceptional talent propelled him to secure a historic gold medal in the compound men’s category at the 2023 Hyundai World Archery Championships.
Abhishek Verma, a graduate of Hindu College, pursued higher studies at Georgetown University, Washington DC, before becoming the Editor-Publisher of ‘India Worldwide,’ a renowned monthly magazine for Non-Resident Indians in the USA.
Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar, on the other hand, showcased his talents by clinching the gold medal at the Shanghai 2023 Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 2 tournament, defeating the World Number 1, Mike Schloesser, by a single point. His exceptional performance also earned him a silver medal at the Archery World Cup Final 2023 in Hermosillo, Mexico.
The triumphant victory of the Indian team in the compound men’s archery event not only showcased their remarkable skills but also highlighted their determination to excel on the international stage.
