Delhi Police successfully cracked a robbery case that occurred inside Pragati Maidan tunnel in the national capital. CCTV footage revealed four armed robbers on motorcycles forcefully intercepting a car, seizing a black bag containing Rs 2 lakh, and fleeing the scene.
The victims, Patel Sajan Kumar and his associate, were delivery agents for a private company en route to Gurugram. The police announced the case’s resolution on Tuesday.
Investigations revealed that the robbery was orchestrated by a man named Usman, motivated by his mounting debts. The tunnel was deliberately chosen to minimize potential resistance. Spanning 1.5 km, the tunnel connects New Delhi with Sarai Kale Khan and Noida.
The Delhi Police revealed that Usman, a Burari resident and delivery agent familiar with the cash flow in the Chandni Chowk area, devised a plan to eliminate his debts through robbery. He enlisted his cousin, Irfan, to assist him.
Additionally, Anuj Mishra, known as Sanki, Kuldeep, also known as Lungad, and Sumit, also known as Akash, were recruited for the operation. Sumit, a vegetable vendor, accompanied Usman on a reconnaissance mission around Chandni Chowk. Anuj, a mechanic at the Delhi Jal Board warehouse, was one of the bikers involved in the robbery.
The group initially failed to find a suitable target in Chandni Chowk on June 22 and June 23. However, on June 24, they identified a person whom they believed to be carrying a bag full of cash and followed him into the Pragati Maidan tunnel.
CCTV footage captured the robbery, featuring four individuals intercepting a car within the tunnel. Two helmeted men dismounted their motorcycles—one approached the driver’s side while the other went to the rear door—both brandishing pistols.
They swiftly fled on their bikes, absconding with the black bag containing Rs 2 lakh in cash. The culprits used stolen motorcycles to execute their plan.
The Delhi Police apprehended all the individuals involved in the robbery scheme, relying on CCTV footage and other evidence. Furthermore, two motorcycles, a firearm, and Rs 5 lakh were seized from the arrested suspects.
