Atiq Ahmed’s Son Asad Encounter Highlights
Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Taken from Naini Jail to Dhoomanganj Police Station
Atiq Ahmed, a gangster-politician, has faced a major blow as his son Asad, who was a prime accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi, along with another wanted criminal named Ghulam. Asad’s encounter was carried out by the STF, led by Deputy SP Navendu and Deputy SP Vimal. The fact that Asad’s encounter occurred on the same day that Atiq Ahmed was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Prayagraj in relation to the Umesh Pal murder case is a significant coincidence. The encounter has brought attention to the ongoing battle against organized crime in Uttar Pradesh.

Atiq Ahmed’s brother Khalid Azim, also known as Ashraf, was brought from a jail in Bareilly while Atiq was brought from Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat to be produced in court in Prayagraj. The two were implicated in the Umesh Pal murder case, who was a key witness in the 2005 murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal, along with his two police security guards. Umesh Pal and his guards were shot outside his home in the Dhoomanganj area of Prayagraj on February 24, 2023. The fact that Atiq’s son Asad was killed in an encounter on the same day as his father’s production in court has raised eyebrows and has drawn attention to the issue of organized crime in Uttar Pradesh.
